Nigeria’s Next President and Vice President (Olorun Maje, Chukwu Amankwe Ihe Ojo!)

Hello, I’m sorry about my long absence. My oga’s at work have been on my case and I don’t have internet at home. Anyhow this is mainly directed at those of you in the diaspora. Have you seen the fellas Obasanjo hand picked for President and V. President? Let me look for some pictures of them. Ok, the guy on the far left is Umar Musa Yaradua. He is currently the Governor of Katsina State and the PDP’s Presidential Candidate. This is a man who had no interest in the Presidential Race whatsoever but was nominated by the President barely two weeks to the PDP Convention. I say two weeks because that’s when non stop adverts started running asking people to choose Yaradua as the PDP Presidential Candidate. It was serious propaganda; I mean the radio couldn’t be on for more than 10 minutes without running a Yaradua Ad. Billboards with the man’s face appeared all over town. Next thing we knew IBB who was also a contender for the PDP ticket stepped down citing reasons that he couldn’t contest against Yar’adua as he was like his younger brother (does that even make sense?). A night to the convention, the Governors of Cross River, Rivers, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Bauchi, Imo all stepped down to support Yara’dua (who are they kidding?) so at that point it was clear that Yaradua was going to win since the only remaining contenders were Rochas and Jerry Gana.
Who is Yaradua? people asked; no one had heard about the guy and as far as we knew his claim to fame was being the brother of the late Shehu Musa Yara’dua (the politician who died in detention, during Abacha’s time). The late Shehu had worked with Obasanjo in the 70’s and his brother Umaru had more or less been given the Governorship of Katsina state to compensate the family’s great loss.

Why was he now being forced on PDP and on Nigeria? Simply because he can be controlled by Baba (Obasanjo). The other contenders were too strong willed to be controlled by a puppet string. Yar’adua an unambitious guy will be an obedient child to baba and in effect will be a figure head and Baba will still be in control! Of course as far as PDP is concerned they are the only political party in Nigeria therefore their candidate is Nigeria’s next President.
Rumour has it that the guy has serious health issues. In fact, he is in a German hospital at the moment being treated for an undisclosed ailment.

The other guy, Jonathan Goodluck is the Governor of Bayelsa. Now the man is on cloud 9. He was the Deputy Governor of his state until his oga was impeached and he automatically became Governor. He was still basking in the euphoria of his new found status when Baba choose him to be Yar’adua’s running mate. This is a guy who is a notorious “donatus” (he doles out money freely to anyone for any reason). Just write a proposal and part of the oil rich state’s money enters your hand. Meanwhile Bayelsians are still grappling in abject poverty.
As far as he is concerned he just has good luck and makes corny jokes about how his name has brought him luck.

What really annoys me about Yaradua & Goodluck is that Baba Obasanjo is carrying about as if they are Nigeria’s next President and VP. Infact he has said that his party PDP will be in control and that this years election is a “do or die affair” (imagine a president saying that). The truth is that we in Nigeria know that he has the machinery to rig elections so that even if no one votes for this lack-lustre and colourless pair, they will still win. Also, he is ensuring that PDP gubernatorial candidates become governors in every State in Nigeria. It so depressing to think that Nigeria will be governed by figure heads who have no plans for Nigeria, all they will do is implement Baba’s plans.

God has assured me that all will be well;
“Woe to those who plan iniquity, to those who plot evil on their beds!
At morning’s light they carry it out because it is in their power to do it.
They covet fields and seize them, and them, and houses, and take them.
They defraud a man of his home, fellow men of his inheritance.
Therefore the Lord says: “I am planning disaster against this people from which
you cannot save yourself…” Micah 2 :1-4.
The above happened to former president; Baba we don’t want the same to happen to you. You have done a decent job this last 8 years; please don’t spoil your good name by forcing PDP down Nigeria’s throat. A word is enough for the wise

**God allowed it and Yara’dua was our President albeit for a short time, and who could have know GEJ would be President? Cest la vie!

  1. I agree about the motives behind choosing the Yar’Adua/Goodluck ticket. PDP is carrying on like they are the full power and are God etc. What they have not realised is that man proposes, God disposes. I firmly believe that because a lot of Christians are praying to God for a good leader, chosen by the Lord, to lead Nigeria to the next level, that God will take absolute control. God is not mocked. And it will be a surprise to many….

Having said all that, why didn’t PDP choose Duke (absolutely love him!) as presidential candidate??????? As it is, if I am in he mood to vote, I would vote for Utomi…..

  2. Very very well-written and informative piece. On the other side of the argument, there are those who say that Yar’Adua is not as quiet as he seems, that he will not allow himself to be controlled by Baba should he become president. How can we know what to expect from him, though, when we know nothing about him? Anyway, God is in control. As Im said, man proposes, God disposes. There is no all-powerful person or group of persons on the face of the earth, contrary to what the PDP big-wigs think.

  3. Amen to that oh nyemoni..Baba is such a case and he has refused to take the statement back na wa..
@lm..long time hows your family? I, finally got a new help.I think Duke may have been good, which is why Baba didn’t choose him.
@hello daddy’s girl.Lets hope the people saying he has a mind of his own are right either way God is in control indeed.

  4. @omara..with the intrigues in Nigeria’s politics and the state of the economy almost everyone has become a political commentator:).I just pray the elections go well so that Nigerians abroad can have hope in Naija.

  5. I think a lot of the problems Yar’adua has stem from the fact that he is relatively unkown. But don’t take it from me, since I am obviously a team member, but look at this blog post to see what some independent parties have to say about his years as governor of Katsina. I suspect you’ll be surprised to find that he is probably not the man you think.

And as to the fact that he was obscure? I say true, but so was one fellow called Bill Clinton.

  6. Interesting article especially in the light of what happened after this!! Yar’Adua ruled for a short time and passed away, then the Shoeless One took over (despite Turai’s desperate attempts to lie to Nigerians in order to hold on to power). Sadly, GEJ allowed his friends and cronies to cart away a lot of Nigeria’s wealth in the days when we were making plenty of oil money, while innocent people were being slaughtered by evil Boko Haram. Now Change in the form of Buhari has come, at a time when there is no money and people are suffering. Governments have come and gone but the plight of the common man is worse. God please help us in Nigeria.
