Talking ’bout My Hair!

I can so relate to India Arie’s song about hair. Right now I have natchy (nappy) hair and I’m lovin’ it! (Sorry, my camcorder is acting up so I can’t show any pics at the moment) Growing up, I had so much hair! I was one of those children with big thick afro! I remember going to a school which was full of expat children (St Saviour’s, Ikoyi). One Christmas, I acted as one of the angels in the nativity play -actually, I was the only black angel and my co-angels were not too happy to have me as an angel. Why? […]

Raising Boys!

My boys bring me a lot of joy, but they sure are a handful! The thing about having boys back to back is that they become partners in crime. They aid and abet each other in committing naughty crimes. Nonso is 3, Mel is 19 months and they love each other to bits. They jump off tables, and generally wreck havoc together. Yet it’s so wonderful to see them hug when they see each other after school. It is absolutely adorable! Right now my house-help is ill so I am doing it the “obodo oyibo” way (you know how it is […]

Moving Wahala!

Remember in my last post I said I had fears of moving? Well, this is really the first time I have actively been involved in moving houses and it has been ROUGH! There’s just so much to do! So, my husband has this NGO called LILFELINE (they provide free emergency services for accident victims) and we had a charity walk today. The 6km walk went well but I couldn’t get anything appropriate to wear because my stuff is upside down. Who ever said moving was fun? Also, we have no internet yet in this new place… this means I can’t blog as […]

Moving On Up!

Who remembers the sitcom “Moving On Up”? I think the theme song goes something like “…bought a big house in the city…” Well, our house ain’t exactly that big but it’s just been bought and we’re moving in this weekend! Yay!! I have been looking forward to moving in with excitement but with a bit of fear. Fear? Yep. I’m scared of the thought of all the work that comes with moving and the kids, of course, are always in the way. But hey, I thank God for his mercies because without him, we would be looking for another rented apartment […]

Culture Shock!

Baba na wa for you! Culture and Tourism in Nigeria has just received a negative jolt. I mean how can Baba (Obasanjo) send Borisade to Culture and Tourism? Once again this administration has shown its obvious disregard for tourism. I can almost guarantee that with Borisade at the helm of affairs, it is the beginning of the end of Tourism (which sadly, is already not doing well) in Nigeria. People have been asking why there have been so many calls for Borisade’s resignation. Well, it’s because the guy is inept! He may not have caused the air crashes but one thing […]

Anambra State and its Wahala!

I have almost given up on my beloved state. Why? Because lately, there is hardly anything to love about it -well, except that it’s the home of my forefathers and really, when I do go to my home town, it does feel like home. Here are my worries: the roads are unbelievably bad, it’s highly undeveloped, security is poor and it’s boring! However, my main grouse with my home state is its inability to produce good Governors. This is rather ironical when one considers that this same state has produced so many talented leaders in different spheres of our nation. However, […]

Borisade, Resign!

Borisade is our current Minister of Aviation. I have nothing against him but his track record is terrible. When he was in Education his ineptitude was clear, now that he’s in Aviation, it is even worse. There have been 5 aviation accidents this year -not because our pilots are bad or our planes are old but because some people are just not doing their jobs! There was an accident on Sunday, and like most air disasters it was ghastly. Rather than investigating what led to the incidence, the Minister hastily heaped the blame on the pilot. When the weather is bad, normally, […]
